Another scare for Ana Ivanovic
It seems the drama is never ending for Ana Ivanovic. In the last months of 2010, Ana showed signs of brilliance as she was able to snatch 2 titles. The world saw a glimpse of the Ana who conquered the French Open and reached the world number 1 ranking. In the Hopman Cup, Ana seems to be in the groove winning her singles matches only to be beaten by the come backing Justine Henin.
Despite her loss, Serbia has reached the finals of the Hopman Cup. But the tournament was surprised when Ana Ivanovic announced that her tandem with Novak Djokovic will not be playing in the finals due to a stomach strain she suffered from her match against Justine. The Serbian beauty is racing against time to be fit for the Australian Open which starts on January 17.
Here's what Ana has to say about another setback in her quest to be a force one again in women's tennis:
"I definitely will (ask for a delayed start)," the world No.17 said.
"I'm not sure (whether they will give it to me) because it's a grand slam and they go with the draw so it's like 50-50, but I'll definitely have my fingers crossed for a Tuesday start.
"The doctor said I should take at least three or four days with complete rest.
"Slowly I can start doing more bike and hopefully step on a court as well.
"It's very individual how fast it will heal.
"Hopefully with lots of icing and laser it can speed up the recovery.
"I'm positive I will be fit in 10 days time to play.
"It (the injury) is not a huge deal but it's stupid and bad timing and it's very frustrating that these things happen.
"I have to try to recover the best possible way and try to stay positive.
"At least I have a week before the Open. I rather (it happen now) than this time next week."
